When another event filmmaker asks you to film and make a same day edit for him and his bride on their wedding day, with full creative freedom, you can’t help but feel the pressure of knowing that you need to have your A game on the day. The pressure of choosing the right music, the shots, timing, the team… it’s a real challenge. Not that we don’t deal with this at every wedding. Just that this was specially challenging because we’re doing it for friends in the industry who does this themselves. Our groom, Kyle, is a wedding filmmaker himself at District 12 Films. He’s worked with us a few times and two of his groomsmen are too. They’re our good friends in the industry. They know what we go through, so they will be more forgiving to us. But that’s not what you want to have in mind on the day itself. You want to challenge yourself and impress your own peers. You psych yourself and get your game on. But then you’re thrown a curve ball.. The day before the wedding, Kyle finds out we’re only allowed ONE camera at the church, St. Catherine of Siena, in the beautiful beach town of Laguna Beach. ONE camera at the back of the aisle! One angle! We’re pretty sure when he found out about this, he thought about bringing a camera himself, to his own wedding. But the good thing is, as mentioned earlier, he had filmmakers in his entourage. One is Loyd Calomay, another good friend that we’ve worked with and an A-lister in the world of wedding filmmaking. So we got help. A franchise player in front row! A homerun for team Sharlene and Kyle!
So everything went smooth and we were able to present on time, with a good round of applause and a warm reception from our couple’s family and friends at the artsy Seven Degrees.
Thanks to event specialist Kristine Lingad and her team, the awesome team of Allan Jay Garcia of Triversity Weddings Photography, Fr. Sam (the couple’s uncle who flew in from the Philippines), our team of Louie Casas and Xerxes Sangco, and of course, to Loyd Calomay for the big help capturing the the ceremony.
Congratulations Sharlene and Kyle! Thank you for your trust.
